Do you want to read the Bible but need a plan?
I’ve got a Bible reading plan for you. It covers all books in a year’s time and it’s based on what makes sense to me. I hope it’s useful for you.
It starts with the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. It continues with the Book of Acts, so you’ll get a grounding in who Jesus is, what he’s done for us, and how he works inside of us to establish and grow Christian community.
Next, the plan takes you back to the Old Testament for the books of Genesis and Exodus. Then you switch back and forth from the New Testament to the Old Testament.
I’ve taken this approach because I’ve found some parts of the Old Testament to be dark. Many of the stories made me feel frustrated and despairing as God’s people struggled with confusion, disobedience, and difficulty. At the same time, sections of the New Testament evoked hopefulness. I wanted to remind myself of my hope in Jesus and his redeeming love for us and the world at regular intervals.
